Annual Neuroscience Retreat
All graduate students, training faculty members of the USC Neuroscience Graduate Program (NGP), as well as graduate students from other programs training in NGP training faculty laboratories, are invited to attend the annual NGP retreat held this year at the splendid UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center in Lake Arrowhead, CA, from Friday, September 28th to Sunday, September 30th.
This year's retreat features two outstanding speakers: Dr. BJ Casey and Dr. Peter Kalivas.
BJ Casey, PhD
Sackler Professor and Director of the Sackler Institute at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She is a pioneer in novel uses of neuroimaging methodologies to examine behavioral and brain development. Her program of research focuses on attention and affect regulation, particularly their development, disruption and neurobiological basis.
Peter Kalivas, PhD
Professor and Co-Chair of the Department of Neurosciences at Medical University of South Carolina. He studies neuroplasticity underlying the development of addiction to drugs of abuse, as well as the learning and memory deficits associated with impoverished rearing environments, with a combination of biochemistry, electrophysiology, and behavioral modeling.
The purpose of this gathering is to inform program members about current research projects and provide graduate students with the opportunity to participate in an atmosphere much like that of a national meeting.
All Neuroscience Graduate Program students, including those starting their first year of study, are encouraged to attend in order to learn more about the diversity of on-going neuroscience research in the graduate program. In addition, the retreat provides an informal forum to encourage and facilitate social and scientific interactions and discussion among program members, both faculty and students
