Thank you for your interest in PIBBS at the University of Southern California. We appreciate your interest in PIBBS and look forward to a possible future relationship with you. At this time, we are no longer accepting applications for the Fall of 2008. However, beginning in October 2008, we will again post our PIBBS Online Admissions Application Form and begin accepting applications for the Fall of 2009. Please come back and visit us again in October.
All applications must be submitted using the online application form. Any applications submitted
by regular mail will not be considered. The deadline for submitting applications for the Fall of 2009 is December 15, 2008.
In order to help you plan your application, a list of the information needed to complete a PIBBS application is given below. We look forward to hearing from you in the Fall.
PIBBS Online Admissions Application Form (Google for PIBBS Application)
- Your full name and E-mail address
- Your present and permanent mailing addresses and current phone number
- Your biographical information (date of birth, place of birth, citizenship)
- Visa status if you are not a U.S. citizen
- Universities attended including dates
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores - Advanced tests are optional
- TOEFL score (international applicants only)
- Names and contact information for 3 instructors or mentors that you ask to write
letters of recommendation for you using the online form described below
- Detailed list of science and math courses taken in college and grades received in these courses
- Your overall grade point average and science grade point average at each
university attended
- Optional information about grades and courses
- List of academic honors, awards and scholarships
- Research interests: names of 2 or 3 PIBBS faculty whose reseach is most interesting to you and 2 or 3 research topics
that are most interesting to you
- Brief description of your prior research experience
- Brief personal statement describing your reasons for seeking a PhD in the biomedical
and biological sciences and describing your long-term career goals
PIBBS Online Letter of Recommendation (Google for PIBBS letter)
Please arrange for 3 instructors or mentors to submit letters of recommendation for you using the PIBBS online letter of recommentation form (see link below). It is most helpful to have letters from instructors or mentors who have directed your research in their own lab.

All letters of recommendation must be submitted using this form. Beginning in the Fall of 2008, we will no longer accept or review letters submitted in any other format (No Exceptions).

- Official copies of transcripts from all univeristies and colleges attended
- Official copies of GRE scores (verbal, quantitative, analytical) - Advanced tests in biochemistry, biology or chemistry are optional.

Interviews
The most highly qualified applicants living in the U.S. will be invited to visit the USC Campus and meet with the faculty and some of our current students. This will include a tour of the University Park Campus and the Health Sciences Campus. The most highly qualified applicants living outside the U.S. will be interviewed by telephone by one of the PIBBS faculty members. The final decision to accept applicants into the program will be based on the visit and/or interview.
