PIBBS Mission Statement

As a leader in biological and biomedical research, USC is pleased to offer graduate Programs in Biomedical and Biological Sciences (PIBBS). The goal of PIBBS is to attract outstanding students and provide them with a rigorous, individually tailored educational experience to train them as internationally competitive research scientists.

PIBBS serves as an entryway into 15 Ph.D. programs in the biomedical and biological sciences at USC. Students accepted into the program carry out several laboratory rotations during their first year of study. Students may choose their laboratory rotations from more than 200 USC faculty who are conducting internationally recognized research in a diverse array of biological disciplines.

After successfully completing laboratory rotations, each student then identifies a professor with whom he/she will do his/her thesis work. At that time, the student also is enrolled as a second year student in the Ph.D. program of his/her choice.

PIBBS Application Process

Beginning in the Fall of 2009, applications to PIBBS will be processed through the Apply Yourself web site of USC Graduate Admissions. Please click on the following link to apply. Important…
When filling out the application, please note that all PIBBS students will be financially supported for the duration of their Ph.D. studies, this includes, stipend, tuition and health and dental insurance.
If you feel you will need additional financial support please indicate so on the Financial Aid Section.
