Research Description The main focus of my laboratory is to determine the molecular basis of branching morphogenesis in the lung using transgenic and knock out mice. We were the first to report the important role of Fibroblast Growth factor 10 in directing lung epithelial budding. FGF10 acts through FGFR2b, expressed in the epithelium, to trigger chemotaxis and proliferation. We are actually trying to define the signaling network of epithelial-mesenchymal interaction regulating branching. This network involves members of the Bone Morphogenetic Protein, Hedgehog and Wnt families. Recently, we also became interested in the role of FGF10, secreted by the dermamyotome of the somites in the control of mammary placode formation. Our goal is to try to characterize the network of interaction, between the usual players mentioned above, in the formation of the mammary line in mouse.
