Research Description

My major research interests include structure-activity relationship and drug design, physical organic chemistry and natural products. Ongoing research projects include design, synthesis, and testing of antiviral and anticancer agents; refinement of quantitative structure-activity relationship models for application in vivo and in vitro ; correlation of side effects and toxicities with molecular structures; isolation of bioactive natural products like immunostimulating polysaccharides from Chinese herbs. The overall emphasis is to apply the tools of SAR in the optimization of lead compounds obtained from screening tests or natural products, in terms of increased potency, efficacy and decreased adverse reactions and toxicities.
