Research Description

"Biology of Connective Tissues, Bones & Teeth"

The long term objective of this project was to determine the structure and function of enamel proteins in tissue-specific biomineralization (amelogenin and tuftelin) as well as the molecular genetics of Amelogenesis Imperfecta.

"Cementogenesis: Role of Hertwig's Epithelial Root Sheath"

The long-term objective of this project is to test the hypothesis that HERS cells undergo epithelial-mesenchymal transformation to become cementoblast cells which in turn deposit the cementum covering the roots.

"Molecular Determinants of Root Resorption"

This is a small grant designed to obtain preliminary data to study the initial molecular events leading to external root resorption induced by endodontic treatment.

"Tissue Engineering for Periodontium Repair"

The long-term objective of this project is to test the hypothesis that HERS cells (or their products) can be used in tissue engineering to regenerate periodontal tissue.
