Meet the staff

Gene Bickers, Associate Vice Provost, Undergraduate Programs

Gene Bickers serves as Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs. His responsibilities include oversight of the USC First Contact Initiative and other university–wide academic programs for undergraduate students. In addition he works in association with the Vice President for Planning and Budget to develop new curricular strategies which address USC’s commitment to education centered on the diverse needs of undergraduate learners.
Gene earned his bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics with highest distinction at the University of Virginia in 1981. His master’s (1983) and doctoral (1986) degrees in theoretical physics are from Cornell University. He has been a member of the USC faculty since 1988, and he served as Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy from 2003–2005.
Gene’s research has concentrated on the physics of strongly correlated electrons in solids. He was an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow from 1991-93. He is the recipient of the USC College’s Raubenheimer Junior and Senior Faculty Awards (1992 and 2002).
Gene was a Faculty Fellow in USC’s Center for Excellence in Teaching from 1997–2000. His teaching has been recognized by a Mortar Board Excellence in Teaching Award (1994), the College’s General Education Teaching Award (2000), the University’s Teaching Has No Boundaries Award (2003), and the University Associates Award for Excellence in Teaching (1999).


David Glasgow, Director, Undergraduate Programs

Currently the Director of Undergraduate Programs, Dr. David Glasgow has primary responsibility for directing the Renaissance Scholars Program and oversees the annual Undergraduate Symposium for Scholarly and Creative Work. He works in conjunction with all academic departments to enhance research opportunities for undergraduate students. In addition, he manages a university-wide advisor training for new and veteran advisors. He directly works with liaisons from all academic units to ensure accurate accounting of retention and graduation data.  Dr. Glasgow holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the Rossier School of Education at USC.
