What kind of research
do you conduct?
I engage in tobacco and other drug use
prevention and cessation research. While I do a lot of
different stuff (some etiology, some program evaluation), I
especially enjoy empirical program development work.
In
a typical semester, how many undergraduates do you work
with? What kind of research activities do the undergraduate
students perform?
I teach the HP410 course, Issues in Drug Abuse, to 20-40
students. On occasion, I take on an HP 490 student.
Activities could include field observation, data collection,
data entry, literature searches, report preparation, and
paper preparation.
What are some
of your recent undergraduate projects?
The best example is:
Sussman, S., Dent, C.W., & Leu, L.
The one-year prospective prediction of substance abuse and
dependence among high-risk adolescents. Journal of Substance
Abuse, 12, 373-386, 2000
(Linda Leu published with us as a high-performing
undergraduate student.)
