What kind of research do you conduct?

As Editor of the International Gay and Lesbian Review, I am centrally involved in reviewing new research that is being published in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Studies.  I also travel around the world, most recently in China and South Korea, applying the theoretical positions in my most recent book Overcoming Heterosexism and Homophobia to help improve the social acceptance of same-sex love in other cultures.

In a typical semester, how many undergraduates do you work with? What kind of research activities do the undergraduate students perform?

I work with many students in the SWMS 210g "Social Issues in Gender" class who are doing research on sexual variance.  I also work with several students who assist with the International Gay and Lesbian Review, which is published at www.usc.edu/gayreview online at USC.

Undergraduates help with processing of new books that will be abstracted for the International Gay and Lesbian Review.  Other students, especially international students, work on research to assist communities of sexual minorities in their own country.  I also support student involvement with ONE Institute International Gay and Lesbian Archives, the world's largest research center in GLBT Studies, which is located at USC.

What are some of your recent undergraduate projects?

One undergraduate student has been searching the internet to locate web sites to link with the International Gay and Lesbian Review, while another has been copying reviews of recently published books on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender topics. Others write abstracts of new books in this burgeoning field of study.
