Our Mission
Med-COR seeks to increase the pool of high school students of color committed to the pursuit of health professional careers. We seek to develop a larger pool of disadvantaged students who are competitively eligible for admission to the most pretigious University programs designed to motivate, academically prepare and commit them to health careers.
Goals and Objectives
The program is organized around five objectives:
- To improve the academic and study-skill level of minority and economically disadvantaged students so that they will be academically competitive for admission to top-ranked universities.
- To provide students with mentors and role models to motivate them towards academic execellence. The primary mentors are college minority students who serve as facilitators (tutors) and medical students who are mentors and role models.
- To expose middle school and high school students to various health related careers and the prerequisites for entry into these health careers.
- To enhance student self-esteem through group identification and group interaction.
- To expose students to the health care needs and problems of minority communities through group discussions and dialogue with health professionals.
