Award Recipients: Professor of Chemistry and Chair of WiSE Advisory Board, Hanna Reisler, with Doctoral Student in MCB and President of GWiB group, Meghna Patel
Last evening at the Davidson Conference Center, Hanna Reisler and Meghna Patel were honored among 10 other women faculty, staff, and students for their contributions to the USC community, as part of the Fifth Annual Remarkable Women Awards, sponsored by The Office of Campus Activities and the Women's Student Assembly.
Peers and students nominated the awardees, and the recipients were chosen based on achievements in their respective fields, significant contributions to USC, commitment to students, commitment to women's issues, community involvement, leadership accomplishments and professional recognition and honors.
Reisler, the Lloyd Armstrong Jr. Chair in Science in Engineering, was honored for her work in the formation of the Women in Science and Engineering program, her mentorship of students and faculty, and her exceptional achievements as a chemist.
Patel, a doctoral candidate in Molecular and Computational Biology, was honored for her initiative in creating the Graduate Women in Biology (GWiB)Group to "unite women who are involved in the sciences and help women make successful career choices."
This year, Student Affairs received 47 nominations for the 12 awards. The 2007 awardees join 48 other women who have been recognized over the past four years. Applications for the nominations for the Remarkable Women Awards are available in January of every year.
