WiSE Women Recognized at 2010
"Remarkable Women" Awards Ceremony

On Wednesday, March 3, 2010, several WiSE women were recognized at the Eighth Annual Remarkable Women Awards Ceremony for their accomplishments and contributions to USC. Professor and Dean Maja Mataric' of the Computer Science Department in the Viterbi School of Engineering, and Michele Dea, Administrative Services Manager of the Department of Chemistry in the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences, were both named Remarkable Women at the Awards Ceremony, along with Maud Comboul, graduate student, Civil Engineering, Wendy Vu, graduate student, Molecular Biology, and Laura Pomatto, undergraduate student, Biomedical Engineering.

"Prof. Mataric has excelled in and received recognition for her research in the area of Robotics; has made outstanding service contributions to USC; is extremely committed to student education as evidenced by her numerous mentoring accomplishments; has been instrumental in the increase of women in science and engineering at USC as chair of the WiSE Viterbi Committee; and has been involved in the community through participation in the USC Neighborhood Outreach program and her efforts to create robots that would serve the disabled. In short, she is a leader within and outside USC."

Michele Dea, Chemistry Department Administrative Manager, has been recognized for her outstanding and dedicated service to the whole department (faculty, staff, students and postdocs). She sets the highest standards for herself and is able to motivate people to perform at their best. She is an excellent supervisor and is indispensable to the entire department, including all department chairs. She also contributes to community service and is always willing to help others at USC and beyond.
