DoD Young Investigator/Faculty Award Proposal Workshop

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for assistant professors applying for one of the five DoD Young Investigator/Faculty Awards.

Four of the programs (Army, Air Force, Navy, and Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) require candidates who have held their graduate degrees (PhD or equivalent) for fewer than five years at roughly the time of application. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Young Faculty Award candidates must be untenured Assistant or Associate Professors within 6 years of appointment to a tenure-track position.

In all cases, the candidates must be a US citizen, national, or permanent resident.

Course Description

The workshop will provide tips on how to structure a successful Young Investigator/Faculty proposal, including the amount of funding available, guidance toward topic selection, and the anticipated proposal due dates. past recipients will provide their insights on how to succeed in the competition.

Instructors

• James Murday, Director of Physical Sciences, DC Office for Research Advancement.

• Faculty who recently received Young Investigator Awards from the Office of Naval Research (ONR)- Andrea Armani, the Army Research Office (ARO)- Michelle Povinelli, and the Air Force of Scientific Research (AFOSR)- Stephen Cronin.

Length

One 2 hour session. Offered once per semester.
