USC GRADUATE SCHOOL FELLOWSHIP COMPETITION 2007-2008
The following awards are being administered by the Graduate School. All
applications require nomination by both the department and the unit or
school dean.
Consideration for these fellowship is contingent upon: (1)
a completed application for admission to a Ph.D. program submitted to the
university (for incoming students only), (2) nomination by both the
department and the unit or school dean.

1. ALL-UNIVERSITY
PREDOCTORAL DIVERSITY FELLOWSHIPS
Excellent incoming Ph.D. applicants who will
serve to increase the representation of underrepresented groups as
doctoral students in their disciplines in U.S. universities are
eligible for the All-University Predoctoral Diversity Fellowship.
Preference will be given to those who are considering pursuing a
career in academic teaching. The All-University Predoctoral
Diversity Fellowships will provide students with a stipend of
$25,000, up to 24 units of tuition, payment of mandatory fees, and
student health and dental insurance. Fellowships will be combined
with matching funds from individual schools to provide four or more
years of funding toward the Ph.D.
2. PROVOST GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS
Excellent incoming Ph.D. applicants are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to those
who are considering pursuing a career in academic research and teaching. Provost Graduate Fellowships will provide
students with a stipend of $25,000, up to 24 units of tuition, payment of mandatory fees, and student health and dental
insurance. Fellowships will be combined with matching funds from individual schools to provide four or more years of funding toward the Ph.D.
3. CHEN
FELLOWSHIP
Entering graduate students are eligible for this fellowship if they are
residents of Fuzhou, China; or descendants
of alumni of Fukien Christian University; or relatives of the Chens.
4. MYRONIS SCHOLARSHIP
Preference will be given to entering or continuing
students who are Greek citizens pursuing degrees at USC in medicine,
engineering, chemistry or physics.
5. JOHN STAUFFER FELLOWSHIP
Students in the physical sciences are eligible for this award at
any stage of their graduate studies. If there is no qualified candiate among those academic
areas, then any student in the natural sciences and engineering will be considered.
6. ANNA BING ARNOLD AND LOUIS D. BEAUMONT FELLOWSHIPS
One of each fellowship is available to students in the humanities at any stage
of their graduate studies.
7. OAKLEY FELLOWSHIP
All students nominated by their department will be considered for the one
year Oakley fellowships.
8. MORKOVIN FELLOWSHIP
One award is available to a student who has passed his/her qualifying
exam and is pursuing research in one of the following areas; language development, linguistics, audiology, perceptual and
communicative aspects of behavior and personality development, and allied fields.
Research that is especially encouraged is language acquisition by auditorily handicapped preschool children
and young children whose cognitive abilities are impaired by poverty, cultural
conflict or linguistic interference.
