RESEARCH POSITIONS IN MEDICAL INFORMATIONS
Clinical Decision Systems Group
Medical Informatics Program
National University of Singapore
Applications are invited for several research positions in the
Clinical Decision Systems Group of the newly-formed Medical
Informatics Program at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The
positions are tenable at the Department of Information Systems and
Computer Science, and the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department.
The Medical Informatics Program is a multi-disciplinary research
initiative involving participation from various Faculties and Research
Institutes at NUS, as well as local and international institutions and
hospitals. The Program aims to undertake basic and applied R&D, and to
establish a foundation for a center of excellence in medical
informatics in Singapore and the Asian-Pacific region.
Current research focus of the Clinical Decision Systems Group includes
the following areas:
* Automated decision making over time and under uncertainty
* Automated knowledge acquisition from multiple knowledge sources
* Time-critical dynamic decision modeling
Academic staff and collaborators of the Clinical Decision Systems
Group include computer scientists, engineers, and medical doctors at
NUS, National University Hospital, and Singapore General Hospital in
Singapore, and University of Pittsburgh and Boston Children's
Hospital/Harvard Medical School in the USA.
The following positions are available. Each appointment is renewable
annually; funding is committed for at least three years. A competitive
salary and benefits package will be provided. The appointee will
participate in one or more on-going projects.
A) RESEARCH FELLOW (No. of position available: 2)

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in computer science or related
disciplines. Strong background in artificial intelligence, especially
in knowledge acquisition and probabilistic reasoning, decision theory,
and statistics required. Experience in medical computing desirable.
B) RESEARCH ASSISTANT (No. of position available: 3)

Candidates should have at least a Bachelor degree in computer science
or related disciplines. Background in artificial intelligence and
statistics necessary; good programming skills in Lisp, C++ or C
required; system and network programming experience in Unix (and
X-window), MacOS, and/or MS Windows desirable; interest in medical
computing preferrable. Successful candidates are encouraged to pursue
an advanced degree at NUS while working on the project.
