Hello, All,
This year's Semantic Modeling of Accounting Phenomena (SMAP)
meeting will be held on August 15 (Saturday) in conjunction
with the Annual Meeting of the American Accounting
Association. The day will be divided into a morning session
focusing on teaching data modeling (especially REA
modeling), and the afternoon will focus on research.
As we did last year, all who participate will be asked to
submit an idea for discussion. This idea could be a
research proposal or working paper (or idea!), or a teaching
case or problem. If you are new to the area, you could
submit your ideas about why this interests you or plans you
have for the future, or questions you'd like to resolve.
This requirement is NOT meant to limit participation.
Rather, it is a tool we're using to help develop a critical
mass of teaching and research ideas that we can share and
enhance. To meet this goal, please submit your materials to
Julie Smith David in HTML or Word format to her e-mail
(julie.smith.david@asu.edu). She will administer a web site
for participants so the materials can be distributed prior
to the meeting.
Additionally, there will be a $30 fee for participation.
Twenty dollars of this fee will be used for the
much-sought-after T-shirts. The remaining funds will be
used to entice doctoral student participants. To help them
defer the costs of attending the meeting, their admittance
fee will be waved, and extra funds will be distributed to
them. If you know of potential doctoral student recruits,
please extend an invitation to them!
Materials should be submitted electronically by August 1
(julie.smith.david@asu.edu). We would appreciate checks to
be submitted by August 1 made out to Julie Smith David
(SMAP) at
School of Accountancy & Information Management
Arizona State University
Box 3606
Tempe AZ 85287-3606
For international participants -- just bring your $30 to the
session, rather than making a special trip for US funds
ahead of time.
We're looking forward to a great working session! Please
join us!
