COURSE DESCRIPTION: An examination of how accounting information of an organization is gathered, processed, stored, and distributed.
COURSE OBJECTIVE: To gain a basic understanding of accounting information systems. The focus of the course is on financial and managerial system design, and system implementation with special emphasis on internal controls. The course will include practical training with computerized accounting systems.
CLASSROOM POLICIES: Students are expected to attend all classes (except in the case of emergencies). If a student is to miss an examination due to an emergency, the instructor must be notified in advance. The assigned homework is to be completed prior to coming to class. Students are responsible for all material covered when absent. Late computer assignments will be penalized 5% for each day beyond the due date. The grading of all written assignments, in and out of the classroom, will be based on content and style. Style includes neatness, legibility, proper usage of English grammar, proper spelling and punctuation, and clarity of expression. Individuals who have any disability, either permanent or temporary, which might affect their ability to perform in this class are encouraged to inform the instructor at the start of the semester. Adaptations of methods, materials or testing may be made as required to provide for equitable participation. It is the policy of the board of regents that students' sincerely held religious beliefs shall be reasonably accommodated with respect to scheduling all examinations and other academic requirements. The board of regents adopts this chapter in order to ensure that all institutions of the University of Wisconsin system have in place appropriate mechanisms for ensuring the reasonable accommodation of students' sincerely held religious beliefs, and for appeals related to these matters.
GRADING: The individual student's final grade will be determined by the combined points received on each of four hour exams plus completed computer assignments.
