WITS’97 The 7th Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS’97) will be held in Atlanta, Georgia during December 13-14, 1997. The purpose of the workshop is to promote discussion and interaction among members of the Information Systems community with research interests in cutting-edge information technologies and systems. We are particularly interested in exchanging research ideas and results which will not only contribute to the academic areas, but will also benefit the business community in the foreseeable future. The theme of WITS’97 is the Role of the Internet and Web-based Systems in Networked Organizations .
We solicit condensed research papers describing original ideas, new results, novel applications, or "experience reports" describing lessons learned in the development, operations, and maintenance of actual systems. The research should address issues concerning the theory, development, management and application of advanced information technologies and systems. We also encourage proposals for panels that examine emerging, innovative, or otherwise provocative issues. Suggested topics include, but not limited to: · Intranet & Extranet Design · Intelligent Agents · Knowledge Discovery and Management · Information Quality, Privacy and Security · Human-Computer Interaction · Information Warehousing & OLAP · Advanced Database Technologies · Object-Oriented Systems & Methodologies · Web-Based Software Development & Commerce · Intra- & Inter-Organizational Workflow Systems · Collaborative and Negotiation Systems · Integration with Legacy Systems · Geographical Info Systems · Multi-Media Systems
The length of submitted papers should be limited to double-spaced, 12-point font, 10 A4 pages (including tables, figures, and references). Panel proposals, are limited to 5 pages, and should include a summary of the topics to be covered, names, and affiliations of 3-4 panelists who have made a commitment to participate, a summary of their position statements, and a brief biography of each. A mix of industry and academic panel members is encouraged. Submissions violating the above requirements will be rejected without going through the review process.
All submissions, excluding panel proposals, will be reviewed double blind. Selection for presentation at the workshop and publication in the proceedings will be based on originality, contribution to the field, and workshop interest. The program committee may select papers as posters in which case the authors will have to condense them to 5 pages for the conference proceedings. Authors of selected research papers may be invited to submit complete versions of their work for possible journal publication after the workshop. All submissions must be electronic in either Microsoft Word, PDF, or postscript files not to exceed 1Mbyte. The mechanism for the electronic submissions is as follows. An abstract, including authors names and affiliation, must be e-mailed to wits97@isr.berkeley.edu by July 1, 1997. A return e-mail will contain instructions and a paper number that should be used by the authors to e-mail or ftp the "anonymous" full papers. Panel proposals should follow the same process except the anonymity.
