The Evolution of Ernie - The Online Business Consultant

The case discusses Ernst & Young's online consulting service, "Ernie." Ernie offers web-based consulting by a virtual team of Ernst & Young providers. Target customers could ask an unlimited number of questions for a yearly fee of $6,000.
Competition in the Dutch Flower Markets (Local)/(Resources at NYU)
Ajit Kambil (New York University), Eric van Heck (Tilburg University) with Wai Chu Yu and Roslyn Tuton, 1996. Investigates the emergence of Tele Flower Auction. Case allows comparison of the traditional Dutch Auction Process for flowers and the impact of experiments with information technology.
Blake Ives (LSU) and Michael Earl (London Business School), 1997. In five years the Mondex Electronic Purse had gone from an idea, through a municipality-wide pilot, to a global alternative to cash. Many issues now confronted the senior management of the newly incorporated Mondex International Ltd (MXI). Among these were establishing an infrastructure to support, and policies to coordinate, the international banking consortiums that had joined the Mondex scheme, forging a migration path into the world of Internet based payments, and deciding what role MXI would play in new markets.
Espen Andersen (espen.andersen@bi.no, self@espen.com) Norwegian School of Management, 1997. This is a case about a small academic bookstore that is struggling with what to do when students start buying their books at Amazon or other Internet services. The case focuses on the institutional setting of the bookstore, what the student market means to the development of an alumni market, and the role the bookstore now plays in the distribution chain.
Sirkka Javenpaa and Blake Ives - Digital's management in the summer of '94 faces an opportunity to partially realign their business towards open communications architecture and the Internet. The case describes how Internet champions within Digital ignited management's enthusiasm for this technology and how Digital is using the Internet and Worldwide web, for electronic commerce, as a potential new business and as an internal management tool. The web version of the case provides hands on experience with electronic publishing, distribution, advertising, marketing, and retailing.
