Aspects of human thought and behavior, including developing research about memory, social interaction, deviant behavior and mental illness, are under study in the College's psychology department.

Pursuing a degree in psychology requires students to investigate how human beings learn, remember, communicate and interact; how they develop over the life span; how they adjust to change; and how they solve problems.

Classes in learning and memory, interpersonal  relations, behavioral neuroscience, and abnormal psychology can lead to a B.A. in psychology, a combined B.A. in psychology and linguistics.

Through their coursework, students survey everything from entire societies to families to individual cells to help describe, explain and predict behavior. By focusing on five main areas of psychology—cognitive, developmental, clinical, biological and social—they develop a variety of skills that apply to educational, work and community environments.

The psychology department provides academic advisement, internships, research opportunities and an honors program. As members of the student organization Psi Chi, students can share ideas, experiences and resources, while socializing with their peers.

Psychology graduates may pursue careers in management, human resources, marketing, advertising, education or survey research. The discipline is also an excellent way to prepare for law, medicine, business, professional education and graduate resarch prorams.
