Richard Flory, Research Associate

Richard Flory is a Research Associate in the Center for Religion and Civic Culture at the University of Southern California. His Ph.D. is in sociology from the University of Chicago, and his primary research and teaching interests are in the areas of religion, culture, and urban life. He is the author of Finding Faith: The Spiritual Quest of the Post-Boomer Generation (Rutgers University Press, 2008) and GenX Religion (Routledge 2000), and has recently co-authored (with Brad Christerson and Korie Edwards), Growing up in America: The Power of Race in the Lives of Teens, to be published in 2010 by Stanford University Press. He currently has several projects on religion in Los Angeles underway: 1) “The Civic role of Religion: Faith-Based Organizing in Los Angeles Since the 1992 Riots” (funded by the Haynes Foundation), “The Dream Center” (funded by the Flame of Love/John Templeton Foundation), and “Pentecostalism in Los Angeles” (funded by the John Templeton Foundation). His research has been supported by grants from the University of Southern California, the Louisville Institute, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Lilly Endowment, the Haynes Foundation, and the John Templeton Foundation.
