Japanese Language Program: Study in Japan

For those who study Japanese and those interested in Japan and Japanese culture, it will be a great experience to actually go to Japan and stay.  Hope that the following information will help you to find necessary information.

For USC students:

The Office of Overseas Studies at the University of Southern California offers study opportunities in Tokyo (or visit the sites for Waseda and Tokyo International University), and Nagoya (or visit the site of Nanzan University).  Each program has a unique character and strength, and all provide the chance for USC undergraduates to embark on the adventure of exploration and learning.  Please refer to the checklists for application information.

For other general information related with stay in Japan:

Initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Home Affairs in cooperation with local governments in Japan, the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program is designed to invite foreign youth to Japan and provide them with opportunities to teach language, and sports at junior and senior high schools all over the Japan, or to engage in international exchange activities at local governments (cited from Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

Kansai Gaidai University, located in Osaka, provides Asian Studies Program, a one-year study, with students from abroad.  The program provides students with an opportunity to  study and obtain a practical knowledge of the culture and language of Japan.

  • Waseda/Oregon Program

    This program provides a comparative of U.S. & Japanese societies and Intensive Japanese Language study Programs at Waseda University Tokyo, Japan.

  • CET Kyoto Japanese Language and Internship Program

    CET provides an excellent opportunity for students wishing to study Japanese language and learn about the Japanese workplace.  Program features include:

    • Small, intensive language classes for all language levels, beginning through high advanced
    • Internships for intermediate and advanced students
    • Homestays for all students
    • Extracurricular activities and excursions throughout the Kansai area
    • Qualified Resident Director on site year-round

Cornell University offers its special intensive language program.  FALCON students spend six hours a day, five days a week, for periods up to a full year, studying language only, and thus are able to complete as many as 1,200 hours of supervised classroom and laboratory work in one year (cited from FALCON Program).
