The EALC department currently offers a Ph.D. degree. Prospective students wishing to apply to the MA Program are encouraged to apply to the PhD. Program instead. Only students applying to the PhD. Program will be considered for funding.
The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) offers graduate students advanced training in the linguistics, languages, literatures, and cultures of China, Japan, and Korea. We also encourage appropriate cross-registration with other departments to enhance theoretical and methodological skills. Our students have combined approaches from cultural studies, linguistics, literature, film and media studies, and other disciplines to broaden more traditional paradigms and provide a different perspective on the reading of the texts in their fields. By allowing a greater degree of flexibility, our interdisciplinary approach enhances students' research skills and enables them to become well-rounded scholars.
To receive priority consideration for fellowship funding, applications and supporting documents must be received by December 1, 2011. To begin the online application process, please go to http://www.usc.edu/admission/graduate/.
