As an undergraduate at UC Berkeley I was a history major and wrote my senior honor's thesis on the sexual politics of sickness in late 19th century America.
I've always been interested in US women's and feminist history and in college took an undergraduate course which also sparked my interest in the American west, especially the development of metropolises in the 20th century. As a native angeleno, LA history is certainly at the top of my list. Though both of these interests seem a little unrelated, i hope to combine them into an innovative and powerful dissertation which will hopefully make a lasting statement on the relationship between space, gender and politics. Some of my other history-related interests are reading old etiquette books, women's magazines from the 50s and 60s as well as collecting vintage dresses and other "ladies' accoutrements" we so thankfully don't need to don anymore.
