Graduate OrganizationsHISTORY GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION The HGSA represents the interests of all graduate students in the History Department, both within the department and to the University as a member of the Graduate and Professional Student Senate. The HGSA provides a forum in which history graduate students can discuss academic, departmental, and professional development issues and concerns. It gives voice to student concerns by participating in some faculty meetings and on search committees. HGSA also participates in new student orientation and organizes a number of social activities throughout the year. The HGSA Executive Committee for the 2008–09 academic year is as follows: Duties of the Executive Committee include representing the HGSA at all GPSS meetings and events and on the department's Graduate Studies Committee, organizing events for the new student orientation and recruitment, sponsoring workshops and colloquia within the department, and general organizational concerns. HGSA members may contact any or all Executive Committee members with any questions, suggestions, or concerns. GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL STUDENT SENATE CENTER FOR FEMINIST RESEARCH GAY, LESBIAN, BI, TRANSGENDERED STUDENT ASSEMBLY HACIENDO HISTORIA Haciendo Historia was founded in 2002 by a group of graduate students of color committed to the creation, growth, and advancement of a Chicano graduate historian community at the University of Southern California. Haciendo Historia's main goals are (1) The recruitment and retention of Chicana/o Latina/o graduate students and faculty in the Department of History; (2) Fostering community among our membership; (3) The development of academic professionalization; (4) Voicing Chicana/o/Latina/o graduate student concerns to the Department of History and other university affiliates; (5) Supporting innovative graduate student curricula; (6) Establishing interdisciplinary networks across campuses.
