| VISITING SCHOLARS
Qualifications
- Ph.D., or equivalent evidence of professional achievement, by the time the appointment would begin.
- A USC Linguistics faculty member's consent to serve as the university sponsor for the applicant during his or her stay at USC.

An application should consist of the following:
- Application (Click link to open file. Print out application.)
- Cover Letter/Statement of Purpose
- Curriculum Vitae
- A proposal (no more than 3 pages), outlining the research that will be undertaken while in residence at USC.
- Two letters of recommendation from scholars with expertise in the area of applicant's intended research.
- A certified statement of financial support from the applicant's place of employment or financial institution.
- International Visitors
International scholars will need to obtain a J-1 visa to pursue their research in the Linguistics Department at USC. J-1 visas are issued following the issuance by USC's Office of International Students (OIS) of a DS-2019.
- Review information about J-1 Scholars from the Office of International Services (OIS).
- Complete OIS application for Request for Exchange Visitor (J-1) Visa Status.
- Copy of passport information page for scholar and any accompanying dependents.
- Processing Fee: There is a $250 (USD) fee for the processing of the documents needed to secure a J-1visa. The check or money order must be drawn in U.S. funds. The check or money order should be made payable to USC Linguistics.
Application Deadline
- Visiting scholar applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
- Visiting scholars are appointed for a maximum of one year.
- Please submit application and materials at least 5 months prior to your anticipated start date to allow for processing of paperwork.
For fall appointments, application and supporting materials should be submitted in March.
For spring appointments, materials should be submitted in July.
