DR. TRAVIS LONGCORE
His research interest is urban biogeography and conservation, with emphasis on: ecological restoration; monitoring and management of endangered species; conservation planning; and edge effects of development, especially artificial night lighting. He is co-editor of the book Ecological Consequences of Artificial Night Lighting (with Catherine Rich, Island Press, 2006) and author or co-author of 17 scientific articles in journals such as Conservation Biology,Restoration Ecology, Environmental Management, Urban Geography, and Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment. Dr. Longcore’s current projects include leading the habitat portion of the “Green Visions Plan for 21st Century Southern California”; directing captive rearing and survey efforts for the endangered Palos Verdes blue butterfly; leading a research project to model habitat and describe status and trends for the Western Snowy Plover along California’s central coast; and investigating the historical ecology of the San Gabriel River and a series of southern California estuaries.
