Recent Faculty Appointments

The School of Philosophy is pleased to announce two new faculty appointments for 2008-09:

Gary Watson, a distinguished philosopher of action, ethics, and law formerly at UC Riverside, has accepted an appointment as Provost Professor of Philosophy and Law.
Kenny Easwaran, who is completing his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley, has been appointed as Assistant Professor. He works in formal epistemology, the philosophy of science, and the philosophy of mathematics.

These hires continue the ongoing expansion of the School, and follow the appointments since 2004 of David Manley (Ph.D. Rutgers), Jake Ross (Ph.D. Rutgers), Mark Schroeder (Ph.D. Princeton), Scott Soames (Princeton), James Van Cleve (Brown), and George Wilson (UC Davis).

Announcements

The School is also pleased to announce the following news:

Nathan Salmon (UC Santa Barbara), a leading figure in the philosophy of language, will be visiting faculty at USC in Fall 2008.
Mark Schroeder was granted tenure in Spring 2008, and is promoted to Associate Professor.
For the 2008-09 academic year, Gideon Yaffe has been awarded a Frederick Burkhardt Fellowship, and Stephen Finlay has been awarded a Charles A. Ryskamp Fellowship. Both fellowships are funded by the Mellon Foundation and administered by the ACLS. Each is awarded to no more than 12 applicants annually across the humanities and social sciences.
