Description of ResearchSummary Statement of Research Interests
My main areas of research are the philosophy of language, formal semantics, philosophical logic and the interface between philosophy of language and metaphysics. I have published papers on a variety of topics in these areas, including anaphora, tense, complex demonstratives, and the nature of structured propositions. My first book, Complex Demonstratives: A Quantificational Account, challenged the widely held claim that complex demonstratives are devices of direct reference and defended a quantificational semantics for these expressions. My second book, The Nature and Structure of Content, articulates and defends a view about the metaphysical nature of structured propositions. It is due out in early spring 2007 with Oxford University Press.
