USC Lifestyle Redesign® Weight Loss Program

Obesity and weight gain have reached epidemic proportions in the U.S. At the same time, the April 9, 2003 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association reports that relatively small amounts of weight loss can reduce risk factors for chronic disease such as hypertension and diabetes associated with obesity.

Key aspects of the Lifestyle Redesign® Weight Loss Program include:

  • Participating in an intensive six-month lifestyle modification program
  • Implementing a radical reorganization of lifestyle - not just dieting
  • Losing weight while eating nutritionally dense, healthy foods
  • Developing healthy habits of eating and daily activity
  • Enabling prospective bariatric clients to lose enough weight to improve surgical outcomes or eliminate the need for surgery entirely

Examples of benefits gained from the Lifestyle Redesign® Weight Loss program include:

  • People with diabetes who have relied on medication to control their glucose level have reduced their dependence on medication during the program as they implement healthy eating routines and physical activity.
  • People with demanding schedules who have fallen into bad eating patterns can be helped to develop customized plans for healthy eating and living.
  • Some have tried multiple diets but always gained the weight back. With the weekly monitoring of their weight, long-term support and communication, and the ongoing habit inculcation from the occupational therapist, they have been at their goal weight for over one year.
