2004 Spring Electives

How do I register?
If the course has a course number OR is a 500 A, B, or C level course without limited enrollment, register as you would any other course. No pre-approval is necessary.

The following courses require pre-approval, as enrollment is limited:

  • OT 574 – Enhancing Motor Control for Occupation (McLaughlin Gray)
  • OT 500 – Advanced Group Dynamics (Leary)
  • OT 500 – Advanced Physical Disabilities and Experiences in Teaching (McLaughlin Gray)
  • OT 500 – USC University Hospital (Gordon) – Essay Required
  • OT 500 – Cedars Sinai (Clark) – Essay Required
  • OT 590 – Research Project at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (Zemke)

For these six courses ONLY, fill out an OT 500/590 request form (attached). Return the form to Jeanine Blanchard in the OT Office. The form can also be faxed to (323) 442-1540 or emailed (jeanine@usc.edu). All requests to take these six courses must be received by Jeanine by noon on April 1st. By the close of business on April 2nd, students will be notified if they are approved to register in these five courses. If the requests for the courses exceed the enrollment capacity, a lottery will be held. With the exceptions of the University Hospital and Cedars Sinai clinical opportunities, if there are still spaces available in the course after April 2nd, students can continue to enroll in the course on a first-come-first-serve basis. No pre-enrollment form is necessary after April 2nd.

How do I know if I should register for 500 A, B or C?
The 500A, B, and C series refer not to particular courses, but to the sequence that YOU take your electives. For example, if YOU are taking your first elective with course number 500, you will register for 500A with the instructor who teaches that elective. If YOU have already taken 500A, you will register for 500B with the instructor who teaches the elective, etc. You may only register for 500A once, 500B once, and 500C once. Therefore, you may only take three OT 500 courses while at USC.

What do I do if I have further questions?
If you have logistic or scheduling questions, please refer them to Jeanine Blanchard at (323) 442-1827, or at jeanine@usc.edu. If you have questions about course content, you may contact Diane Kellegrew at (323) 442-2882, or at kellegre@usc.edu (email preferred).
