PATHWAYS TO EXCELLENCE REGISTRATION INFORMATION

  • Pathways to Excellence These courses enable graduate students to broaden and deepen their knowledge and expertise in contemporary practice areas. They may be taken for 2-4 units depending on the semester.
  • Clinical Experiences (OT 500; A, B, C) include participation in various clinical/health settings in the community. May be taken for 2 to 4 units.
  • Research Experiences (OT 590) include participation in research projects with USC community partners. May be taken for 2 to 6 units.
  • Independent Study (OT 500/590) enables students to research a topic or participate in a clinical experience of their choice, supervised by a USC faculty member. May be taken for 2 to 6 units.
  • Other Options You may take 4 units outside the OT division at the 400 hundred level or higher.

ELECTIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 12 units of electives are required for graduation
  • At least 8 units must be OT electives, but all 12 units may be OT electives
  • 4 units may be taken outside the department if they are at the 400 level or higher.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR MY FALL 2008 ELECTIVES?

  • Select 4 units of your choice. Complete the Pathways Request Form (Word doc.).
  • Return the form to Peter Wittrock in the OT Office, or via email at wittrock@usc.edu, or by fax to (323) 442-1540 by Noon on Friday, March 28, 2008. Students will be cleared to register for division elective and core courses by Friday, April 11, 2008.
  • If a course requires an interview, the instructor will contact the student via email or phone to make an appointment. If a course requires an essay turn it in to Peter Wittrock along with your request form and you will be contacted regarding your acceptance into the class.

PATHWAYS REGISTRATION TIMELINE:

  • Monday, March: 24: Pathways information delivered to your mailbox and sent out on the Listserve.
  • Friday, March 28: Submit your request form to Peter for Pathways elective or outside elective.
  • Monday, April 7: You will receive an email that confirms the elective and core courses for which you will be cleared to register.
  • Friday, April 11: You will be cleared to begin registering for Pathways electives and core courses. Registration continues until August 22.
