Critical Care Medicine
Intensive care experience is provided at the Kenneth Norris
Cancer Hospital where major post operative patients as well
as medical patients receive care. The ICU is run by USC anesthesia
intensivists. The surgical intensive care unit has a mixed
population of patients following major trauma, major urologic,
ENT, GYN, or oncologic surgery. There are multiple types of
major surgery in elderly patients or those with multiple co-morbidities.
These patients also are frequently admitted to the SICU.
Controlled hypotensive anesthetic techniques which are utilized
at Norris for the more extensive cancer surgeries. Epidural
narcotics and regional nerve blocks are administered and monitored
for post operative pain relief.
