RESIDENCY
Dermatology is a three-year training program. The department
currently supports three residents per year, for a total of
nine residents. The residents are required to complete an
initial year of residency training in general medicine, general
surgery surgery, pediatrics, or a “transitional year”
prior to beginning the dermatology residency.
During the dermatology residency, each resident is trained
clinically in general adult dermatology, pediatric dermatology,
dermatologic surgery (including Mohs surgery), laser surgery,
and cosmetic dermatology. Residents are also trained in dermatopathology
so that they can interpret skin biopsies under a microscope.
Outside of clinics, the dermatology residents perform textbook
and journal reviews and study pharmacology, dermatopathology,
and the basic science of the skin.
