Emergency Walk-In Area

Medical Director: Kim Newton, MD

The Emergency Ambulatory Area provides care for stable, ambulatory patients with a large variety of urgent and chronic conditions.  In this area we treat multiple types of medical and occasionally surgical conditions ranging from URI's, chest complaints, headaches and stable neurological conditions, abdominal pain and UTI's.  We also see a fair number of patients with other complaints such as gynecological, rheumatological, ophthamological and endocrine.

The area contains 15 examination rooms and a point-of-care section where all phlebotomy is done.  One booth is equipped with monitoring equipment, although in general any patient that requires telemetry is not deemed appropriate for this section.

The emergency walk-in section of the DEM has a shift compliment of 2-5 physicians, occasional other house staff, and several nursing and ancillary support personnel. The Area operates on a 16 hour per day, seven days a week basis and manages between 100 and 150 patients daily.  The admission rate is approximately 5%.
