Community Scan of Public Health
Insurance Outreach Efforts in Los Angeles County
As an initial component of the California Endowment's five-year
strategic plan to expand access to health insurance coverage
in targeted communities of Los Angeles County, the USC Division
of Community Health developed an inventory of existing outreach,
enrollment, retention and access activities for public health
insurance programs. The Center developed and conducted several
in-depth surveys to assess outreach, enrollment, retention
and access activities being conducted by community based organizations,
WIC centers, county hospitals and health centers, and schools
including LAUSD and individual school districts. The inventory
and findings from the study were used by The California Endowment
in determining how best to fund activities to improve access
to health care for low-income uninsured Los Angeles County
residents.
