Nursing
The Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center offers a variety
of nursing training programs. We provide education and training
for all levels of nursing staff.
Training for Nurses Onsite at Community Clinics and
Correctional Facilities
We offer educational programs for nursing and other clinic
staff onsite at community clinics or at correctional facilities.
Programs are designed based on the clinic needs and are generally
2- 4 hours in length. Program format varies from lecture to
interactive workshops with standardized patients. Examples
of topics include:
- HIV/AIDS 101
- HIV Risk Assessment and Counseling
- HIV Rapid Testing
- Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
- HIV and Transgender Patients
- Cultural Sensitivity and Diversity
Standardized Patient Workshops
As part of our educational program for nurses, we also offer
interactive skill development workshops using standardized
patients. Standardized patients are actors who are carefully
trained to portray real patient cases. The standardized patient
workshops are specifically designed to offer nurses and other
healthcare professionals experience and skill building in
selected areas.
Participants have an opportunity to practice patient interviewing and counseling and to build skills in such areas as HIV risk assessment, prevention counseling, HIV test counseling, and treatment adherence. Three-day Workshop Training Program
We offer Nursing
and HIV Care Workshops for registered nurses several
times each calendar year. This program offers registered nurses
an opportunity to increase knowledge and skills in medical
and psychosocial complications associated with HIV disease.
Also emphasized are culture, attitudes and values, as well
as skills and barriers related to HIV risk reduction counseling
