Clinical Activities at LAC+USC Medical Center, RLANRC, AND VAOPC
The Division at LAC+USC Medical Center is actively engaged
in teaching and patient care. Major clinical research programs
in GI bleeding, H. pylori, pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel
disease are ongoing.
Clinical Activities in the Private Practice Setting
In the private practice arena, Drs. DeLeve, Donovan, Fong,
Kahn, Kline, Laine, Lin, Lindsay, Lu, Reynolds, Yang and Zarchy
are active at USC/Norris Cancer Hospital, HCC II and USC University
Hospital, and our practice income has continued to grow annually.
During the past year, Liver Transplant Program has performed
a total of 68 adult transplants with 17 of those from live donors
and 51 being cadaveric. There have been a total of 11 pediatric
transplants with seven coming from live donors and four being
cadaveric. We continue to provide outstanding clinical consultations
in GI and Liver Diseases at LAC+USC Medical Center, Rancho Los
Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (RLANRC), Veteran’s Administration
Outpatient Clinic (VAOPC) and USC University Hospital. We provide
Hepatology and GI consult services including newer technologies
such as capsule endoscopy, Bravo pH monitoring, anti-reflux
procedures (Enteryx) and improving the safety of ERCPs at LAC+USC
Medical Center with weekly clinics in both, plus a hepatitis
clinic. The Division also runs a busy inpatient Hepatology service
at USC University Hospital.
Major Clinical/Research Interests and Accomplishments of the Division
The Division is actively engaged in clinical
and basic research in all locations. Management of GI bleeding,
AIDS, diarrhea, pancreatic pseudocysts, alcoholic hepatitis,
ascites, early detection of GI cancer, and gut bacterial overgrowth,
are among the active areas of clinical investigation. In the
laboratory, the areas of hepatotoxicity, transport physiology,
molecular biology, organ preservation, gut motility, and experimental
colitis are actively investigated. In addition, strong clinical
research is conducted by Division members in H. pylori (Laine
L), GI bleeding (Laine L), nonalcohol fatty liver disease
(Mendler M), esophogeal diseases (Kline M), hepatitis diagnosis
and treatment (Lindsay K), pancreatic diseases (Yang R), liver
transplantation (Fong T-L, Donovan J, Kahn J), and colonic
