This year, Dr. Jelliffe again has been visiting professor in 12 foreign universities.

Sarita Mohanty, M.D., M.P.H.

Since her arrival to USC in 2004, Dr. Mohanty has developed a very productive research program. She has several manuscripts published and in press. Dr. Mohanty is the Principal Investigator of the following studies: 1) A pilot randomized, controlled trial to study depression-specific treatments for patients seeking care within a public emergency department, currently funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Finding Answers, Disparities Research for Change Initiative; 2) A study of the frequent users of health and mental health services in the Los Angeles County (LAC) safety net, a joint study with the LAC Department of Health Services and Mental Health. Dr. Mohanty was also awarded the NARSAD Mental Health Services Research Young Investigator Award for 2006-2008. Dr. Mohanty was recently funded as a Co-Principal Investigator by the Archstone Foundation project to evaluate an emergency-based palliative care service project among low-income patients served in the County system. She is also a Co-Principal Investigator on a study working to improve depression treatment for older minority adults in public sector care. Dr. Mohanty's presence marks the initial steps toward the development of a critical mass of scholar educators in the broad discipline of health services research.

William B. Schwartz, M.D.
Professor of Research Medicine, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award in Health Policy Research

Dr. Schwartz’s research examines the impact of molecular medicine on health care and on society between 2000 and 2050. He is readying a new publication which will further comment on health care delivery in the 21st century which began with his book “Life Without Disease: The Pursuit of Medical Utopia” (University of California Press, 1998). In this discussion, he will relate his expertise in the broad field of health economics to the latest and anticipated advances in biotechnology. Dr. Schwartz continues to be well supported by the National Institutes of Health National Library of Medicine.
