Facilities

LAC+USC Medical Center

A partner of the Keck School of Medicine of USC since 1885, LAC+USC Medical Center is among the largest teaching hospitals in the country. Staffed by more than 450 full-time faculty of the Keck School and approximately 850 medical residents in training, LAC+USC services 50,000 inpatients and 750,000 outpatients annually.  Construction of a new medical center is underway, which will include new inpatient and outpatient facilities, slated to open in late 2006.  Currently, General Hospital at LAC+USC Medical Center features a dedicated hematology as well as oncology ward with subspecialized nursing staff.  Outpatient clinic facilities involving fellows in the training program include specialized hematology, oncology, and HIV clinics.

Fellows in the USC Hematology/Oncology training programs participate in the inpatient and outpatient care of patients in the LAC+USC Healthcare Network.  There are six basic services within the medical center:  the dedicated hematology and oncology ward services, the inpatient consultation services, the chemo-infusion center, and the specialized outpatient clinics.  A more complete description of each service may be found Division’s "Clinical Services & Rotations" sections.

USC/Kenneth Norris Jr. Comprehensive Cancer Center & Hospital

USC/Norris Cancer Center is one of only 26 centers in the country designated as "comprehensive" by the National Cancer Institute. USC/Norris researchers are leaders in basic research on the origins and prevention of cancer and the development of novel therapies for cancer.  The Cancer Center includes specialized multidisciplinatory outpatient cancer centers, an inpatient hospital which includes inpatient hospital beds, a bone marrow transplant unit, and an intensive care unit, operating rooms which provide space for some of the best oncologic surgeons in the world, and a multitude of laboratory facilities for basic and translational research.  Construction of a new tower at USC University Hospital (see below) is underway which will expand the inpatient oncologic facilities.

Fellows in the USC Hematology/Oncology training programs participate predominantly in the inpatient and care of patients at USC/Norris Cancer Hospital, but also gain experience one-on-one with faculty members and patients in the specialty outpatient clinics.

USC University Hospital

USC University Hospital is a private, 293-bed referral, teaching and research hospital staffed by faculty of the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Opened in 1991, this ultra-modern hospital offers some of the most sophisticated technology available.  Construction is underway to greatly expand the capacity and services of this facility.

Fellows in the USC Hematology/Oncology training programs participate in consultative services at USC University Hospital.
