Chief Rounds & Journal Club Led by Drs. Weber and Russell, this weekly conference allows fellows to delve into specific areas of oncology, with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and a critical reading of the literature in oncology.
Fellow Case Conference Led by Drs. Quinn, Daniels, Gitlitz and El-Khoueiry, this weekly conference teaches fellows to systematically solve diagnostic and treatment dilemmas surrounding ongoing cases. There is an emphasis on the proper work up of patients with careful review of radiographs as well as the thought process of arriving at a treatment plan. Pertinent literature is presented with each case.
Cancer Center Grand Rounds This multidisciplinary weekly conference includes all of the departments and divisions involved in the care of patients with various types of cancer. This is a mandatory conference for all combined Hematology-Oncology fellows.
Didactic Teaching Sessions These twice-weekly hour long sessions involve faculty from the Division of Oncology as well as other specialties including surgery, radiation oncology, pharmacy, anesthesia/pain management, and pathology. The didactic teaching series of lectures focuses on selected tumor types from the perspectives of the different specialties and as a whole encompass all areas of oncology
General Tumor Board A weekly multidisciplinatory conference involving medical oncologists, hematologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, as well as allied personnel where interesting or problematic cases are discussed.
Multidisciplinatory Sub-Specialty Conferences Weekly subspecialty tumor-board style conferences involving medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and allied health personnel. Conferences include: breast conferences (both at LAC+USC and Norris), gastrointestinal tumor board, genitourinary tumor board (at LAC+USC as well as Genitourinary Grand Rounds at Norris), thoracic tumor board, sarcoma tumor board, and liver tumor board.
Protocol Meetings Twice-monthly meetings including faculty, fellows, nurses, and research personnel where selected protocols are reviewed in detail with review of particular cases. Fellows are trained in patient presentations as well as trial design and evaluating objective responses and endpoints.
Resident Oncology Seminars Weekly conference given by fellows, supervised by faculty with the objective of teaching house officers general oncology topics.
Pathology Conference Weekly pathology conference where residents and fellows formally review recent and/or older tissue samples with input from the Department of Pathology.
