Administrative Responsibilities
The Department of Medicine’s Office of Graduate Medical Education coordinates the following activities for the residency and/or fellowship programs (160 residents and 70 fellows, respectively):
1. Recruitment, interviewing and hiring of intern applicants.
2. Preparation of employment contracts for all postgraduate trainees in the Department of Medicine.
3. Documentation for licensure after the completion of sufficient clinical training.
4. Collection and summarization of both resident evaluations by faculty and faculty evaluations by residents.
5. Annual reporting of resident performance to the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
6. Annual in-service examination for all Internal Medicine trainees.
7. Preparation of a master schedule for all residents.
8. General Medicine Continuity Clinic assignments.
9. Preparation of a master schedule for faculty attending on the General Medicine Ward Service.
10. Semiannual performance review and meeting with each individual resident.
11. Counseling, preparation of letters of reference, and disciplinary issues regarding interns and residents.
12. Designing and reporting quality assurance indicators for trainees.
13. Scheduling faculty participants for all core residency conferences.
14.Verification of training for hospital and clinical privileges for all former USC Internal Medicine graduates since 1972.
