Ambulatory-Based Training
GENERAL MEDICINE AND SUBSPECIALTY CLINICS
The USC Internal Medicine Residency Training Program provides extensive
training and experience in the delivery of ambulatory services.
At USC, diversity and balance of ambulatory training experience
is achieved through annual ambulatory block rotations, geriatric
medicine, and general medicine and subspecialty clinics. Interns
and residents provide primary care and continuity for their own
panel of patients under the supervision of Departmental faculty.
In addition, all trainees on subspecialty rotations participate
in outpatient clinics an additional one to two afternoons a week.
AMBULATORY CARE BLOCK ROTATION
House staff have the opportunity to participate in a one to two
months of ambulatory experience each year to broaden their primary
care skills. House staff are exposed to a variety of ambulatory
experiences in Internal Medicine subspecialties such as Cardiology,
Nephrology, Gastroenterology and Endocrinology in addition to other
medical subspecialties, including otolaryngology, orthopedics, gynecology,
rehabilitative medicine, dermatology, public health and ophthalmology.
AMBULATORY GERIATRIC MEDICINE BLOCK ROTATION
Residents are exposed to the management of the geriatric population
in the ambulatory setting. This clinical experience includes participation
in a geriatric assessment and elder abuse clinic and curriculum
in: cognitive training, preventive care, nutrition, rehabilitation,
ethics and pharmacodynamics.
