The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology (formerly the Department of Microbiology) at the at the Keck School of Medicine offers a range of research programs designed to prepare graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to conduct independent research in cellular and molecular biology. The Department faculty has diverse research interests, with specialization in animal virology, microbial genetics, molecular and cellular immunology, cellular differentiation, control of protein synthesis, and chemical carcinogenesis.

The Department is housed primarily in two buildings on the Health Sciences Campus. The Department is well equipped for research in microbial physiology and genetics, electron microscopy, virology, cellular and molecular biology, genetic toxicology, and immunology. The Keck School also maintains a core microchemical facility which is available for protein microsequencing and synthesis of peptides and oligo nucleotides.

M MB & I PROGRAM INFORMATION

Graduate Programs »
The Department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology offers two graduate degrees, the Ph.D. Molecular Microbiology & Immunology, and the M.S. Molecular Microbiology & Immunology.

Medical Student Curriculum »
The department is actively involved in teaching the medical students providing instruction in virology, immunology, bacteriology, mycology and parasitology.

Postdoctoral Training Opportunities
Postdoctoral positions funded by the National Institutes of Health are open in the department and the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Training is available in virology, immunology and cancer biology. For more information regarding predoctoral opportunities, see the information about graduate programs. Individuals interested in postdoctoral positions should contact prospective advisors directly. NIH requires that applicants for these positions must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
