A Center For Innovative Research

The USC MS Research Group is involved in innovative research aimed at understanding and potentially arresting the immune attack against myelin and axon seen in MS. Center-affiliated USC researchers receive major funding support through grants from the National Institute of Health, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Norris Foundation, pharmaceutical companies and private donors.

Collaborators from various academic departments at USC, including the Departments of Cell and Neurobiology, Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, Neurology, Pathology, and Preventive Medicine, as well as in the USC Institute for Genetic Medicine and Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute, work with the Center staff to facilitate translation of basic science into the clinical realm. Exciting work in hormonal and pregnancy-associated effects on immune function, viral pathogenesis of demyelinating disease, and genetics of MS, amongst other endeavors, is currently underway.
