Applicant Requirements

Candidates must be fully trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology and eligible as “active candidates” for certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. We accept applications only from individuals who are able to obtain licensure in California. The application form should be sent directly to the Program Director. In addition, we require that all candidates be interviewed personally by our faculty members.

The design of this program is oriented toward individuals of the obstetrical discipline. We will accept applications from candidates of other backgrounds as long as their previous training and subsequent efforts directly relate to perinatal medicine. Such individuals will not be seeking sub-specialty certification in MFM and will NOT be eligible for financial support. Such candidates will not be involved with direct patient care services.

For 2010 positions, we are accepting both paper applications and online applications through ERAS. Please contact Joseph Ouzounian, MD, Program Director (e-mail: jouzouni@usc.edu) or Richard Lee, MD, Associate Program Director (e-mail: richarhl@usc.edu) for further questions regarding the application or fellowship.

Selection Process

Selection of fellows will be made by the members of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Candidates wishing to begin their training at times other than July will be considered on an individual basis. One fellow may be accepted each year.

On acceptance, a candidate for certification of special competence in Maternal-Fetal Medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Inc. must prepare and submit their application for Board approval 90 days before the commencement of training. Consultation, advice, and guidance will be given to the selected candidates in preparing their individualized programs. This will be done with the Program Director and/or the Faculty Advisor with whom the fellow wishes to work. In order to successfully complete the fellowship requirements, the fellow must submit a thesis title on his/her area of interest to the Program Director by the end of the first year of training for approval. See Program Description section of this web site for more details.
