The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility is an academic organization dedicated to clinical excellence and outstanding clinical research. The clinical base of the program is the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Clinic at Women’s and Children’s Hospital of the LAC+USC Medical Center. Over 4,000 outpatient visits take place here annually. A diverse population of walk-in and referral patients presents some of the most varied and challenging clinical cases and diagnostic dilemmas. Much ground-breaking research has been based on the clinical experience gained at this clinic, particularly in the areas of ovulation induction and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCO).

The program for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) of the University of Southern California is located adjacent to Good Samaritan Hospital in downtown Los Angeles, and is staffed by members of the division. Under the continuous direction of Dr. Richard J. Paulson since 1986, the ART Program has generated many innovative techniques and procedures. The program is known internationally for its contributions in the areas of oocyte donation, embryo implantation, and novel methods of ovarian stimulation.

In addition to the ART Program, private patients may seek consultation and treatment by members of the faculty of the Division at several practice sites located at the LAC+USC Medical Center, downtown Los Angeles, and Pasadena. Members of the Division are experts in all aspects of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and have been listed in publications such as, “Best Doctors in America," and “Best Doctors for Women." All of the practice sites are designed to providing state-of-the-art care in a personal office-based setting. In addition to clinics that are specifically oriented toward patient care, the division maintains research clinics, whose primary purpose is to conduct clinical trials. These include the Contraceptive Research Clinic under the direction of John K. Jain, M.D., and the Menopause Research Clinic under the direction of Donna Shoupe, M.D. Completing the infrastructure of the division are the research labs. Under the directorship of Frank Z. Stanczyk, Ph.D., these labs provide support in the areas of tissue culture, radioimmunoassay, and molecular genetics.
