The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides education for its 48 residents (12 residents per year) at five different sites. The primary hospital is Los Angeles County+University of Southern California (LAC+USC) Medical Center. As the number of deliveries have declined over the last 13 years at the primary hospital site, extramural rotations have been arranged to maintain the clinical experience and education of the residents at the highest possible level. These participating institutions include USC University Hospital, USC Norris Cancer Hospital, California Hospital Medical Center, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center.

During their training the residents are exposed to a great breadth of diseases and pathology and a large spectrum of patients. Combining all the sites, the residents participate in more than 11,000 deliveries, 3,400 major gynecologic procedures and 2,100 minor gynecologic procedures annually as the clinical base of their education in general obstetrics and gynecology.

In addition, the residents gain experience in all of the major subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology including maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynecologic urology and family planning. The department offers fellowship training in each of these areas of subspecialty training. Since 1969, 419 residents have graduated from this program and 108 of these physicians have gone on to complete subspecialty training.
