Comprehensive Ophthalmology

The Comprehensive Ophthalmology Service provides a wide range of diagnostic and consultative services. Refractive corneal surgery and surgery for complicated cataract extraction are performed by this service. Doheny is one of the few ophthalmic centers in the country involved in the FDA-supervised clinical trial testing the efficacy of the excimer laser. This dramatic new laser alters corneal shape, thereby correcting refractive errors and removing corneal scars and other opacities that block vision.

The Comprehensive Ophthalmology Service also offers comprehensive evaluations, medical diagnostic services and computerized topography, which can often be performed during a single visit. Surgical services, as listed above, are coordinated closely with the referring physician. Some of the available diagnostic services include pachymetry, potential acuity measurement, and other diagnostic assessment using computerized technology.
