USC Orthopaedic Traumatology
The Orthopaedic Trauma Service provides service to a busy Level I trauma center as a regional referral center for complex trauma cases, including trauma complications where difficult malunion and nonunion cases are managed. Specialists are available to treat such injuries as acetabular fractures, pelvic fractures, pilon fractures, lower and upper extremity injuries and poly-traumatic injuries with a comprehensive approach to the quality of care preoperatively, postoperatively, and during rehabilitation.
While orthopaedic infections only occur in approximately
one percent of all orthopaedic operations following
fractures (especially open fractures), the Trauma faculty
works closely with world-renowned specialists in the
treatment of bone and joint infections and microvascular
surgery. A large number of these cases require soft
tissue transfers to provide adequate coverage over the
bone. Autogenous bone grafts may then be necessary to
fill in a bone defect and/or to heal the fracture. Well-versed
in the latest techniques, our faculty remains actively
involved research and the advancement of treatment for
traumatic orthopaedic injuries.
